People keep asking "How?" as a defense against living their life, says best-selling author Peter Block. In this witty, insightful award-winning book, Block shows that many standard solutions and improvement efforts, reinforced by most of the literature, keep people paralyzed. Here he places the "how to" craze in perspective and teaches individuals, workers, and managers ways to act on what they know. This in turn allows them to reclaim their freedom and capacity to create the kind of world they want to live in. Block's "elements of choice" - the characteristic of a new workplace and a new world based on more positive values - include self-mentoring, investing in relationships, accepting the unpredictability of life, and realizing that the individual prospers only when the community does.

Peter Goodspeed: Thailand rests hopes for stability on untried political clone

04.07.11

Of the military and has continued to manipulate Thai politics in a bid to engineer his return to power. Sunday’s vote marked the second time he bankrolled and backed the winning party in national elections since he was forced from power at gunpoint. But in the past, Thailand’s ruling elite, a loose coalition of monarchists, the bureaucracy and the military, have schemed to sideline Mr. Thaksin and his supporters through a combination of judicial decisions, parliamentary maneuvering and raw military muscle.

The result last year was a month-long standoff in the streets of Bangkok that brought Thailand to the brink of civil war and ended in a  crackdown which left more than 90 people dead. In a country that has had 18 coups and 23 military governments since 1932, the threat of political instability is ever-present. If Sunday’s election results are dismissed by the military and Thailand’s poor are once again disenfranchised turmoil will be inevitable.

A Question in Need of an Answer | Peter Horrobin

by Peter Horrobin (PP)

One of my recent blogs prompted the following question and comment.

“Can you tell me how to fully surrender to the Lord? I have read Andrew Murray’s book Fully Surrendered a long time ago, but it was a thing that seemed too hard or it seemed I was not ready. I don’t think we’re ever really ready. I have some very hard consequences in my life now and it seems that to really hear from the Lord I need to know that I am all the way in with him. I need his protection and words of wisdom in my life. If you read this please write me something.”
