I read some O'level books,Pakistan in my course.Those were excellent references for Islamiat for beginners.Also you should check out some books written by great modern Islamic scholars.

You could try the big major book stores like Barnes & Nobles or Amazon.com, also try the auction site eBay. I have found books on eBay that the stores don't have any longer. Good Luck.
