Not many years ago I was diagnosed with borderline Type 2 diabetes with a a blood sugar readings averaging 132 mg/dl. This was acceptable at the time, then the gate was lowered to 120 mg/dl so I was then declared a Type 2 diabetic. Later the gate was again lowered, and again lowered. I am not sure there is a world wide epidemic of Type 2 diabetics or just a change in the definition so that it appears that there is a worldwide increase. It just how the definition has been changed. My son was told he had Type 2 diabetes at 105mg/dl. If the definition keeps changing, pretty soon we will have 100% of the population either with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. Yes, diabetes has serious ramifications and the problems need to be addressed, especially Type 1 Diabetes. Type 2 should be screened for and depending upon the level of blood sugar and the results of A1c testing, different methods of treatment are available. Mine is a daily dosages of low cost Glpizide and a low glycimic diet.
