The war in this Taliban stronghold has claimed 106 British lives. The Americans took over from our forces last October, and the Dustoff crew risk their lives every day to get the wounded out.

Anja had her own brush with death as she joined the flight to rescue Blas. She heard gunfire as the Black Hawk landed in the combat zone, then a "metallic sound" as bullets thudded into its tail.
