Only a few people attended Sunday's early service at the Community United Methodist Church in Half Moon Bay. Diffused light flooded through the stained-glass designs of pumpkin fields and Bible scenes and calm prevailed as Rev. Larry Thomas moved up one aisle and down the next, addressing each congregant by name.

Then he read from the book of Matthew - "whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones ... shall in no wise lose his reward," and brought the verse home by asking what "little ones" meant to listeners. Could they be children, or low-income recipients of food through Coastside Hope?
