Beneath the Cassock: The Real-Life Vicar of Dibley

Beneath the Cassock: The Real-Life Vicar of Dibley by HarperCollins Entertainment

List Price: $24.95

Dawn French's Vicar of Dibley is one of Britain's best-loved sitcom characters. This is the story of the woman who inspired her. From a rebellious punk phase to her unexpected calling to the ministry, a prominent involvement in the struggle for the ordination of women to her "tabloid" wedding, it is perhaps unsurprising that Joy Carroll was chosen as the inspiration for "The Vicar of Dibley". She charts how the series was intended to help the acceptance of women priests in the church and society, and how Dawn French worked with her to realise that intention. Moving to the States, getting married and having a baby have all added to her multi-faceted role as a woman priest, and this book gives us a true insight into what that means for her and "spiritual" women like her. Elisa Claps laid to rest in Potenza after 18 years | Suite101.com

The religious service was held outdoors, in Piazza Don Bosco, at the request of Elisa's mother, who simply said that her daughter had spent too many years inside a church.

In fact, Elisa's body, discovered only in March 2010 , had lain for 17 years under the roof of the church of the Santissima Trinità - the church where 16-year-old Elisa Claps was last seen on the day she disappeared.

By a quirk of fate, Elisa's funeral was planned to take place only two days after the English court convicted her presumed murderer Danilo Restivo , to a whole life sentence, for the murder of an English woman, Heather Barnett. The similarities between the two murders, nine years apart, have finally made Restivo's rambling defence stories unbelievable. The discovery of abundant DNA from Restivo on the remains of Elisa's sweater put an end to 17 years of waffle from this big, flaccid man, sinister even as a boy, protected hermetically by a family who seem able to wield power over church and civil authorities in Potenza. Gildo Claps, after the English sentence, said "Now Elisa can rest in peace."
